What Is the 'Dr. Now Diet'

This weight-loss plan was created by bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, who appeared on My 600-lb Life.

"The diet plan is designed for individuals who are severely obese and need to lose a significant amount of weight before they can undergo weight-loss surgery," he says.

"Dr. Now usually recommends a low-calorie, low-carb, high-protein diet. On a 1,200-calorie diet, patients eat lean proteins, veggies, and tiny amounts of healthy fats. Diets frequently limit or eliminate carbohydrates, sweets, and processed foods."

US News Health allows nonfat dairy, low-carb condiments, flax seeds, and chia seeds.

Portion management, behavioral modifications, and frequent exercise are crucial with this diet. Based on each patient's medical condition and goals, Dr. Nowzaradan adjusts the diet.

This diet relies on "FAT," or frequency, quantity, and type, according to US News Health. "Frequency" indicates two to three meals a day, no snacks. "Amount" is 1,200 calories daily. Divide them into two 600-calorie meals or three 400-calorie meals.

"While the severe calorie restriction can help people lose weight, it's important to note that the Dr. Now Diet is designed for individuals under medical supervision, particularly those with severe obesity who are preparing for weight-loss surgery,

As with many diets, the Dr. Now Diet may not suit everyone. Consult your doctor before starting any diet or weight-loss plan.
